Helmsdale Highland Games 2003 The Chieftains parade

The massed pipe bands and with this years standard barer and Chieftains prepare for the Chieftains parade. Out side the Bridge hotel.

Andy Sutherland, chairman of the games committee, and committee member Iain Whitehead led the parade from the Bridge Hotel along Dunrobin Street and up to Couper Park, followed by this year’s Chieftain, Tommy Traill, and his family, together with former chieftains and the games committee.
They were escorted by the massed pipes and drums of the Wick Royal British Legion Pipe Band, Sutherland Caledonian Pipe Band, the Kyle of Sutherland Pipe Band and Caverhill Guardians Pipe Band, a visiting band from Germany.

This year’s standard-bearer was Sammy Keith (14) who is herself an enthusiastic sportsperson, being a shinty player and member of a girls’ football team.

Vehicles from the Caithness and Sutherland Vintage Car Club brought up the rear of the parade.
